Founded in Melbourne, Australia the concept signals the company’s belief in the positive outcomes that can be achieved by addressing food waste & by collaboration. LET’S FIGHT food waste TOGETHER, it’s all about second chances… Food waste is a big problem, and together we can be a solution.
Left Spring is a mobile app that lets the general public rescue unsold food from their favorite dining spots from an untimely fate. While there are a number of brands achieving impressive results in the same space across Europe and the USA, Left Spring is the first to market here in Australia, is locally founded, funded and focused
Registered businesses simply upload their leftover ‘surprise bags’ and availability times, notifying customers to come and get it. Customers use the app to explore stores and restaurants in local areas and save by purchasing ‘surprise bags’ of surplus food from going to waste at a great price.
What is a ‘SURPRISE BAG’?
‘Surprise bags’ are packed by registered venue partners and include a random and mixed variety of ‘left-over’ items that are offered with a min 50% discount of RRP. The bags are completely random with no input from customers as to content as this allows the venue to control the contents based on what items they need to sell as well as adding a bit of fun and an element of surprise to customers who get to sample and enjoy random goods from a particular venue.
Venue partners also set the availability times and quantities for daily ‘surprise bags’ at their discretion; usually within an hour or so of scheduled closing times.
HOW WE REDUCE FOOD WASTE?
In Australia, approximately 7.3 million tonnes of food is wasted each year. Our goal is to create a platform where businesses can sell surplus food at a discounted price. This enables them to recover some costs, while also giving others the opportunity to explore and enjoy new cuisines at a lower price.
Every ‘surprise bag’ a customer purchases saves approximately 2.5kg of CO2 emissions.
